Car Counters

Description

As vehicles pass they effect the ambient magnetic field. We use this phenomena to remotely detect cars by sensing the change in magnetic field using a sophisticated magnetometer sensor. The signal from the magnetometer is analysed to detect when a vehicle passes within range of the sensor, and the counter is advanced. The unit consists of a single box which contains the magnetometer, electronics and batteries. There are no external cables or controls. The unit is simply placed beside the car park entrance, and can be setup very quickly without any specialised equipment or knowledge. The counter has automatic calibration circuitry which enables the counter to operate at its optimum performance at all times. The unit is powered from 6 D size batteries, although various other battery systems including inexpensive car batteries can be used if this is specified. The unit is supplied with a bracket through which a padlock can be fastened so that the unit can be secured to a lamp post etc.

Datalogging:		If required a datalogger can be supplied which is incorporated into the control box. The logger records the number of vehicles passing in a preset time interval. This information is retrieved and analysed by connecting the control box to a standard PC . (The Total Count display is optional when the counter is supplied with a logger).
